Trailer projects done!

We had final presentation today where we presented 6 different trailerprojects whom i animated on the two of them: Mon Oncle and Citizen Cane. The idea was that we each were given a classical movie to make a trailer for but with a complete art direction. The CGA's spent in total 7 weeks ( 14 with lectures) on the projects, and we the animaters spent two weeks of animating.
I was
originally in the Mon Oncle group; we planned the project very well making sure only to have 6 shots (you could have max 14), therefore i only had one shot to do ( it's the scene with the swing). Unluckily one of the other groups; Citizen Cane had a lack of animators, so it was decided for me to join them halfway through the two weeks. For this project i animated the two small Grossbutt shots and the final shot with the dragon. (DRAGOOON!!!!!!!!!!).
It was so awesome to be on two projects. Here you go

3D!! and other creative projects

So well, since the start of 3rd semester we have been learning about how to animate in maya. it has been really tough sometimes, but i guess i have achieved a lot so far. In the beginning i wasn't so sure about animating in 3D, but over time it seems like i get more and more fond of it. Take a look at what i have been doing so far :)

At the moment i'm working on the 'trailer - project'. Us and the CG's have been devided into different groups, and have been giving a movie each to go out from. The concept is about making a 30sec long trailer with the same story beats from the movie; the thing is that we can change everything else; the style, genre, time, ect. The time us animators have been learning maya, the CGs have been working on all the pre-production for the trailer project. Anyways i will get back to this later when the trailer projects are finished!

Lately i have had a lot of creative sideworks; one of them has been making a pith for a film together with four other guys across our and the CG class, for Danish Writhers Association. I did most of the character design, and drew the storybeats. Our story was basically about a guy searching for inspiration, and the randomly comes by something that really kickstarts his mind. This 'inspiration' his head now seem to be filled with, is pictured by a huge wavy bubble on top of his head, which causes him a lot of trouble in his dayly life. Suddently he sees a typewriter, and finally he can get all his inpiration out of his mind, down on paper, that tranforms into books people then starts to read. Afterwards when his sitting relaxed and satisfied, a book falls down on him, and he discovers that others are getting inspired to by reading his book.

Sketchbook update!

Yes, it's almost a month since 3rd semester has started with 3D animation, and i have been doing a lot of that so far, which I AM going to upload. Just not now. Now it's sketchbook update time! i really didn't draw a lot during the summer vaccation, but i sure have the last couple of weeks. here you go:

Wow, so it's been a while, let me see...... Right! then we had Dance Animation with Darko Belevski in week 17 - 18 , and i chose to animate nana nana nananana nana nananananana BAAATMAAAAN! oh yeah! and i chose to make him dance to some really nice 50 cent music - take a look! I still want to work on this in the future, it would be really awesome to see this in color!

After dance animation we had the final week - week 19 - of the Escape Project! Exiting! 1 single week for finishing it with animation, color and all that cg stuff. It was hard work and we could have spent more on the sound but it turned out pretty awesome i think!

Week 20 - 21 we had flash introduction with Denis Chapon and flash production with the great animation school La Poudriére http://www.poudriere.eu/en - it was really hard to handle the flash, but the collaboration between us and the french guys was simply amazing. In groups we had to make some test animation based on different childrens books for TV - series presented by the differenct directors. My groups story was about a boy called GusGus - half human and half ghost, and his daily troubles. My scene was about GusGus trying to fly.

Week 23 we had Color class with Tod Polson, and it was fantastic! Since color class a little fire of passion for painting and working woth color has invoken inside of me! in the future i seriously have to work more with this! Here you can see my results working with color schemes, values and composition.

AT LAST! - And last!! but not least! Soup in my Hair is truly finished!! (though you can always make things better) This was a film i made together with Anna Manzarits and Dionysis Doul during Animation Jam (week 14 - 15) and now it's fully edited! (we didn't manage to do earlier)

And btw, here is my showreel for 2nd semester here at the Animation Workshop, most of it is probably posted on my blog allready, buut there is a little extra in the end! - anyways take a look ;)

Sooo, i guess this was it for now. I'm probably not gonna post anything here during the summer, now it's time to relax and think about something else... aah. So all i have left to say is...

So... it's been a while since my last update, i have been quite buisy but here you have some of the stuff i have been doing lately at school:

The weekend after we had Henrik, we had 2 weeks (week 9 - 10) of character design with Julia Bracegirdle where we had to develope our characters for the escape project. To begin with we had some small exercises, where we had to design characters for an advertisement about engery saving light bulbs. Here are some of my results:

and this is how the maquette and the final design for my escape project character ended up (his name is Ned):

so, after character design it was time for 2 weeks (week 11 - 12) of dialouge animation together with the great animator Mike Polvani (i still miss him). Well, here's my result (still need to be worked on (together with all the rest of my stuff...)):

Hereafter we had layout with Marec Fritzinger (week 13). it was really tough for me for once in my life drawing backgrounds/doing layout, and i didn't manage to do all them i was supposed to do (none of us did), still it was a nice experience to see that it's actually possible for me to do an acceptably nice background drawing (or at least i think so). Here are my results:

Next time i'm going to update with the results from animation jam and dance animation (and maybe more) but right now the film we made for animation jam needs several editing, and our dance animation weeks are not even finished jet, but look forward to it!

Photoshop & Aftereffects

Yeah! so for this week (week 8) we had to learn more about the two pograms photoshop and aftereffects which we had A LOOOOT OF FUUUN WITH ! oh yeah. The point of this week was mainly just to get to know the pograms, especially after effects which is extremely usefull, and which i definately gonna use more from now on (now you're warned). Here are the results:

So.. week 5 and 6 we had introduction to TV paint with Laura B Schjødt and Meelis Arulepp where we in week 5 had to animate first the flying cycle of a bird and the walk cycle both realistic and cartoony, and week 6 had to animate a non dialoge acting scene with the character Roger from 101 dalmatians sitting and waithing for his blind date to arrive (which i didn't manage to finish at all). Here is my results of the two weeks:

Week 50 was the launch of a new project with the CG class - ESCAPE. this week we learned a lot about storytelling, and developed during the week a story for the project.

Week 4 we learned about headturn and breaking of joints, which we had only 2 days for. Here's the result, i think i went pretty well:

Week 48 (penneprøve) - this week we worked with 5 animation director students from the danish film school. My group was working on David Adlers project "NativeArrival", on which my job in the group was to animate two scenes - a rowing scene and a paddle scene. This was all about technique, but a learned a lot from it, mostly from the teamwork between director and animator - it was very interesting and enlightening.

Week 45 we had design classes with Lawrence Marwit, where we learned all about basic visual design and construction. All we did was drawing lines and shapes like this drawing that's supposed to give a sence of choclate. I found the desing-week wery usefull and enlightening!

Week 46 we had acting classes with Robert Bennet and got our bodies activated a bit. This was preparation for the interacting classes we are doing now. First interaction assignment was to animate two characters hugging - in my case Kala from "Tarzan" and Hogarth from "the boy and the iron giant" i didn't do a lot in this assignment, so i will have to work more on that sometime as well.

This week (week 47) we are animating with sound! We are gonna animate Danny from "Cats don't Dance" as a conducter to a 5sec long secuense of classical music. This is what i''ve done so far:

Balls with attitude... oh yeah! there was a lot of tecniques to be learned in this assignment.. each got a certain mood, mine was embarrased, not the easiet one. But i guess it turned out okay.

Ladislaw Starewicz

Today we had our first lesson in animation history and we saw a lot of movies. One guy that really inspired me was the russian Ladislaw Starewicz and his "Cameraman's Revenge" which was one of the first stopmotion films with a plot. Now i know a lot of you already know him, but if you havn't seen this movie, watch it!

It all started with Starewicz who wished to record the battle of two beetles, but couldn't do anything by the fact that the beetles always went to sleep whenever the stage lighting was turned on. Starewicz decided to re-create the fight through stop-motion animation: by replacing the beetles' legs with wire, attached with sealing wax to their thorax, he is able to create articulated insect puppets.

Design of me as 6-year-old

Yeah, so this is the design i have decided to work with through the rest of the 'draw for animation' - period. I could've chosen to work with lady medusa (bernard & bianca) or little john (disney's robin hood), but this is way more cool, and it's MY design.

Well, the scene can only be 5sec long and what i have to show is how i was when i was 6 years old. My idea is about me playing war in the garden (because i did that a lot when i was little), with a bucket on my head throwing exploding apples at the enemy.

Here's the first line-test of my idea, comment please! the work is in pogress ;)
